Minting

The Minting process is where users contribute their internet speed data to the DeSpeed network, earning rewards and building valuable data for the community.

Setting Up the DeSpeed Validator Extension

To begin contributing data, users install the DeSpeed validator chrome extension. With each speed test initiated, this extension seamlessly captures essential internet performance metrics:

  • Download Speed: Measures how fast data is transferred to the user’s device.

  • Upload Speed: Measures how fast data is uploaded from the user’s device to the internet.

  • Latency: Tracks the time it takes for data to travel to and from the server.

This automated process is designed to be smooth and non-intrusive, allowing users to contribute valuable, real-time data to the DeSpeed network without interrupting their internet activities.

Proof-of-Speed (PoS) NFT Minting

DeSpeed validates each speed test by minting a Proof-of-Speed (PoS) NFT, securing user contributions on the blockchain. For each test, a unique, gasless PoS NFT is generated, free of any transaction fees. These NFTs serve as verifiable records, storing crucial details:

  • Timestamp and Location (in a privacy-preserving way)

  • Speed Metrics from the test

Users can check the blockchain explorer to view the number of PoS NFTs in their account, giving them an accurate count of their contributions and the positive impact they’ve made.

Contributing to the DeSpeed Network’s Global Data Repository

Each minted PoS NFT feeds into DeSpeed’s decentralized data infrastructure, enriching a dynamic repository of global internet speed information. This data powers DeSpeed’s mapping system, offering an up-to-date view of connectivity across regions and providing valuable insights for users and enterprises alike. Through this process, DeSpeed builds a transparent, decentralized database to advance global internet connectivity.

Why Minting Matters

The minting process doesn’t just validate data—it makes it tamper-proof and auditable, ensuring that the information powering DeSpeed’s network is trustworthy and transparent. By contributing to DeSpeed’s Proof-of-Speed network, users play an essential role in creating an open, decentralized dataset that benefits individual users, researchers, and enterprises alike.
